Set It Off

As far as dance parties go, Set It Off wrote the theme song. Sugar coated pop-punk from Tampa, Florida, lead singer Cody Carson got his start with his parents who were band mates when he was a youngster.

At a young age Carson was surrounded by the music his parents made and was even invited on stage to sing and play with them. Over time that love turned into a passion and he directed that into classical music training, playing clarinet in college. Last year at the Alternative Press Tour stop in Cleveland, Ohio, Carson was granted with the opportunity to join Alex Gaskarth and All Time Low (a favorite of Set It Off) onstage for their first big hit, “Coffee Shop Soundtrack,” and was complimented considerably.

But soon after was a whirlwind. Carson left college after the death of his father and started the band, to say they’ve come a long way in the short time they’ve been together would be quite an understatement. “When my father passed away, I looked on the fridge and there was a note that read, ‘There are no shortcuts to success.’ He wrote that when I was playing clarinet because I wasn't practicing enough, haha, but when I read it that night I realized it was meant for this goal/project in my life, so I carry that little piece of paper in my wallet wherever I go now,” Carson says.

They’ve been through a few band members but in recent months have solidified their line up with guitarist Zach Something, bassist Austin Kerr, keyboardist Dan Clermont, and drummer Benji Panic. Currently on their first tour, Calm Before the Secret in support of their new release “Calm Before the Storm,” the boys will be touring states of the south-east and the mid-west this summer as well as a date at the St. Petersburg Warped Tour on July 26th.
